Dive Right In To Summer Break

More than just swimming facilities await you at the Merrick Pool.

Escaping from the cliché, “April showers bring May flowers” is basically impossible, since Mother Nature proves her old adage true year after year.

Not only are buds blooming all over the island, but temperatures are starting to crank up. We haven’t had any severe sweat inducing days yet, but they’re undoubtedly just around the corner.

Consider registering for a pass to the Merrick pool, courtesy of the Merrick States Civic Association, this summer. Promoting both accessibility and ease, you can register for a pool pass at mecapool.org.

Gracefully floating in the pool or fitting in a workout with some laps are certainly part of the deal, but your aquatic summer entertainment does not end there.

Bring little ones to the wading pool and sandbox, so that they can interact with their peers in an inviting and age appropriate environment. Older children – and big kids – will enjoy taking a leap off the diving board or splashing down the waterslide. Join in on the active entertainment, or take a seat on a lounge chair around the perimeter of the pool, while relaxing underneath a colorful umbrella.

The fear of water does certainly keep some otherwise active individuals away from pools. If you are one of those people, contact the association for information on their swim lessons, to make for a safe summer swim or two.

Other activities are available for those who prefer to keep their feet on land at all times. Head over to the volleyball or basketball court for a few rounds of your favorite game. Bring the children to an arts and crafts session, or try row or pedal boating. On weekends, schedule a rooftop massage for yourself or a group of friends.

Jealous of your pals who celebrate their events with pool parties? Evening parties for adults only are available, as are children’s birthday parties during the day. Other events held at the pool include religious celebrations, surprise parties and so forth.

The pool will be opening on June 18. Be sure to register for your pass as soon as possible so that you can optimize your summer swimming experiences.
