Drunk Driver Causes Collision, Then Flees: Police
BREAKING: He drove his car into another, then ran away from the scene.

Police say a Merrick man caused a collision while driving drunk, and then fled the scene on foot.
According to police, officers responded to an car collision in front of 1813 Merrick Road. Upon arrival, witnesses said that a man wearing a black sweatshirt with dark shoulder-length hair had fled the scene on foot.
Officers searched the area and stopped a man fitting the description on Alice Street and Beach Street. Police say the man had alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet. Anthony Assabi, 30, of Gianelli Avenue, Merrick, was placed under arrest at 12:30 am after witnesses gave a positive identification that he was the driver of a purple 1993 Chevrolet Caprice, which caused the accident.

Assabi is being charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
