The North Merrick School Board declared an emergency last week to replace the water heater at Harold D. Fayette Elementary School, according to the Merrick Herald.
The heater broke down completely last Monday, and the district had been taking previous measures to prepare, as they knew the heater was in poor condition.
From the Merrick Herald:
The heater gave out on Monday, and the building was without hot water through Friday, said Facilities Director Jim Saitta. The district hired a company to install a temporary heater to restore hot water to the building, which should take place on Monday, Saitta said.
The project will not exceed $60,000, and North Merrick Superintendent Feller told the Herald that it will take a couple weeks to purchase and install the permanent replacement.
