Find the support you need to get through this difficult time
Superstorm Sandy left destruction and devastation across Long Island. Homes and property were destroyed, jobs were lost. Nassau County will be feeling the impact of Sandy for years to come. Residents need help, not only with rebuilding, but also with coping with their experiences and losses. Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg (D- Merrick) and Project Hope of Mental Health Association of Nassau County, Inc. announce free and confidential one-on-one or group counseling services for Sandy victims in Bellerose, East Meadow, Carle Place, Floral Park, Franklin Square, Garden City, Garden City Park, Herricks, Lakeview, Malverne, Levittown, Merrick, New Hyde Park, Roosevelt, Rockville Centre, Searingtown, Salisbury, Stewart Manor and West Hempstead. Residents living in one of these areas should call (516) 504-HELP(4357). For residents outside of these areas, please call LifeNet at (800) 543-3638 to be connected to the Project Hope in your area.
The stress and emotional impact from Sandy affects people differently. Some people find themselves feeling exhausted and weary, others find themselves easily angered and distracted. Others exhibit physical ailments, such as upset stomachs or other symptoms. Many residents find having someone to talk to and someone who will listen makes the stress easier to manage. Trained counselors are available to come to homes, workplaces, community centers, schools and houses of worship. Please see details below for focused counseling groups that are open to the public:
