Girl Scout Cookie Boxes Take the Runway at Roosevelt Field
Girl Scouts of Nassau County Model Unique Apparel and Accessories They Created from Cookie Boxes

More than 40 Girl Scouts of Nassau County are ready to strut down the runway at Roosevelt Field during their first ever “Cookie Creations Cookie Box Fashion Show” on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Over 100 girls worked independently or in groups, turning Thin Mints, Trefoils, Do-si-dos, Samoas, Tagalongs, Savannah Smiles, Rah-Rah Raisin and Toffee-tastic boxes into wearable upcycled, fashion-forward apparel and accessories.
“This is our council’s first time holding this event and we are so impressed by the ensembles and accessories we’ve seen,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director/CEO of Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “This experience will not only show our girls what they are capable of but also, participating in the fashion show will further build their confidence.”
All Nassau County Girl Scouts between the ages of 5 to 18 years old were invited to submit an entry of their one of a kind creation, using between 5 to 20 cookie boxes on their works of art.

The event coincides with the Girl Scout cookie season, which launched Friday, December 18, 2015 and will run until April 4, 2016. Cookie season teaches girls the five skills needed in both life and business: goal setting, decision making, money management, business ethics, and people skills. This is the second season of Digital Cookie, the first national digital platform that allows girls to sell cookies and learn 21st-century business skills, in addition to the continued tradition of taking paper orders.
“The ‘Cookie Creations Cookie Box Fashion Show’ is sure to be a great entertainment experience for our guests,” said Nancy Gilbert, Director of Mall Marketing for Roosevelt Field. “We’re excited to collaborate with Girl Scouts of Nassau County and host an event that encourages young girls to express their creativity and have fun.”
