Man Critically Hurt In School Bus Collision: Police

The Monday afternoon accident involved a pickup truck and school bus in Merrick.

MERRICK, NY — A man is in critical condition from a collision with a school bus in Merrick on Monday afternoon.

The bus had no children on board when it collided with a Ford F150 pickup truck on Merrick Avenue, police said.

The crash caused the school to jump the sidewalk and hit a 70-year-old pedestrian, who was severely injured and taken to a hospital.

The bus would come to rest in Merrick Park Cleaners and Tailors, which has since been boarded up by the Town of Hempstead Building Department.

The 63-year-old bus driver and the 61-year-old truck driver were transported to a hospital for minor injuries and released, police said.

Police say no criminality is suspected, but an investigation continues. Both vehicles were inspected by the police's motor carrier unit.
