Bags of Cell Phones Taken From Store During Nassau Gunpoint Robbery

The robbery occurred Monday night, police say.

MERRICK, NY - A masked man robbed a Merrick AT&T store at gunpoint Monday night and left the scene with garbage bags filled with cell phones, police say.

According to authorities, the man entered the AT&T store, located at 186 Merrick Road, confronted a store employee with a gun and forced him to the back of the store where the manager and another employee were concluding the day’s business at 9:02 p.m.

The man forced the two employees into the bathroom, ordered the manager to the stock room area and had him fill garbage bags with cell phones, police say.

He then directed the manager to open the store's safe and stole cash.

The robber left the store through the back door and was seen loading the bags of cell phones into the trunk of a dark-colored four-door car with the help of another man, police say.

Both men then entered the vehicle and were last seen heading westbound on Merrick Road.

Police described the robber as black, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark sweat pants, sneakers, a dark-colored cloth covering his face and white gloves. Police described the second man as Hispanic, and wearing dark-colored shorts and a light-colored shirt.

No injuries were reported.
