Merrick Schools Say Goodbye to Eric Arlin
The former director of pupil services has moved on to the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.
One school district’s loss is another school district’s gain.
That was the sentiment at the Merrick School Board meeting on Aug. 7, as Superintendent Dominick Palma announced that Eric Arlin, the district’s Director of Pupil Services, has been hired in the same capacity at the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.
“It’s a great opportunity for Eric, and we’re really glad that he’s staying down the road, but it’s a real disappointment to us that we’re going to lose him,” Palma said. “Congratulations to Eric.”

Arlin served as principal of Birch School before taking his role in the Central Office.
“On behalf of the board, you did an excellent job, and I am sure all of the parents are going to be sad to see you leave,” Board Vice President Gina Piskin added.

Palma said that the district would begin the search for Arlin’s replacement. A job posting was published on the district’s website, which you can view by clicking here. The deadline for applications is Aug. 22.
“On behalf of all the teachers and the [teacher’s assistants] that have been lucky enough to work with you, both when you were principal at Birch, and in your capacity at Central Office, that we are going to miss you,” Ruth Rosenberg said. “It’s totally our loss, but it’s a big gain for the Central High School District.”
