Merrick Sixth-Grader Receives Citation at Town Board Meeting
Congratulations to Petros D'Amico!
MERRICK, NY - In the Merrick School District, Norman J. Levy Lakeside School sixth-grade student Petros D’Amico received a Citation for his Courage, Character and Commitment during a recent Town of Hempstead board meeting.
Lakeside special education teacher Joanne Savastano nominated Petros for his academic success, determination and accomplishments despite facing the challenges of cerebral palsy and dystonia.
During his time at Lakeside, Petros mainstreamed into his general education classes in first grade, increasing his time in class each year.

Currently he has mainstreamed into sixth-grade math, social studies and science classes where his teacher assistant Janice Kleinman helps navigate the curriculum with various modifications.
Petros’ hard work, dedication and diligence inspires his classmates and teachers as he continues to succeed.
