Special needs students in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s Prep for Life program recently participated in a basketball clinic and game with employees from the Roosevelt Field Mall Nike store at Calhoun High School.
Students received lessons from experienced Nike athletes before breaking off into mixed teams with store employees for an exciting exhibition game at Calhoun.
Each student also received a raffle ticket for a chance to win Nike apparel at the conclusion of the event.
The relationship between Nike and the Bellmore-Merrick special needs program began in Fall 2012 after the opening of “The Stable,” Calhoun’s innovative in-school store that is staffed by Prep for Life students in order to prepare them for retail careers after graduation.
Nike employees ran special workshops throughout the year, sharing their knowledge of the retail business with the students.
