North Merrick Musicians Perform in NYSSMA/All-County Festivals

Editor's Note: The following was written by representatives of the North Merrick School District.

We are proud to announce that 166 North Merrick student recently participated in the NYSSMA festival that was held on April 22 and 23.

NYSSMA stands for New York State School Music Association; this is the group that organizes the solo and band, orchestra and chorus festivals across the state. The students performed individually for a judge and received a rating. Mrs. Rakas reports that all of our students performed at a very high level.

Earlier in the year, 36 North Merrick students were selected to perform at the Long Island All-County Festival. Our talented students participated in All-County Band, Orchestra and Chorus and performed at the Tilles Center (Jan. 10 for fifth graders and Jan. 17 for sixth graders).

All North Merrick music teachers take an active role in these professional music organizations.  This year, in fact, Mr. Andrew Brunson was the chairperson for the All-County Jazz Band.

Congratulations to our talented students and staff.  There is no finer elementary music program in the country than what we have right here in the community of North Merrick.  We thank all of you for your support.
