Not Just Books: This Week's Library Events

There are a variety of things going on at the Merrick and North Merrick libraries this week.

Many people would be surprised to find out how many things actually go on at the library. Most things at the Merrick and North Merrick libraries are even free to residents.

On Monday, dream big at the Merrick Library. Families are invited to join entertainers Beth & Scott Bierko when they present their Dream Big concert. Enjoy original songs, delightful antics and lots of audience participation. No registration needed and it will be held in multi-purpose room A from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

The North Merrick Library is hosting planets, moons and rocket science from 6 on Tuesday. Planets and moons is for grades K through two and the event is from 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Rocket Science is held from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is for grades three through six. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Merrick Library, there is a babysitting and first aid workshop for teens with registered nurses, Joann Tanck and Georgette Basso Certificates will be awarded to all participants. Please bring a doll to the class. Registration is necessary.

On Wednesday, dig for dinosaurs at the North Merrick Library. The fun is for ages three to five with adult Mad Science of Long Island. Children entering grades three to six will cut a cake into a moon and star shapes, frost with butter cream and decorate with sprinkles, M&M’s, and candy at the Merrick Library from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Registration is necessary.

From 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., kids in grades one through six can create an ice cream sculpture with Doris Benter at the North Merrick Library on Thursday.

On Friday, children entering grades K through two will hear some nighttime stories and create spinning tops from recycled CDs at the Merrick Library from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
