Not Just Books: This Week's Library Events

There are a variety of things going on at the Merrick and North Merrick libraries this week

Many people would be surprised to find out how many things actually go on at the library. Most things at the Merrick and North Merrick libraries are even free to residents.

Monday

Merrick Library: From 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., learn how to set up and use Skype and instant messaging programs such as Google chat and Yahoo messenger. Get the webcam ready for video chat just in time to talk to your loved ones going off to college. This class is a lecture and all are welcome to attend.

North Merrick Library: Glow in the dark painting for teens will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Tuesday

Merrick Library: Families are invited to enjoy some board games and have some fun. Games will include Scrabble, Candyland, Boggle, Apples to Apples and more. Turn off the TV and iPads and spend some quality time with the family. No registration needed; held in multi-purpose room B from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

North Merrick Library: From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., enjoy Family Craft: Story Book Cake with a baking coach.

Wednesday

Merrick Library: Children of all ages and caregivers are invited to stop by the Children's Room on Wednesday afternoons between 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and make a craft. All materials will be provided.

North Merrick Library: At 10:30 a.m., join in the fun at Just We Two. Later on, head to Big Dreamers and their Big Discoveries with kids from kindergarten to grade six.

Thursday

Merrick Library: From 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., if you follow current events, join the Merrick Library’s discussion group, moderated by local historian, Jack Bilello. The group will look behind the headlines of stories local, national and international. All are welcome to attend.

North Merrick Library: Tonight there is family movie night under the stars from 7:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.

Friday

Merrick Library: Jason from Green Meadows Farms will be back this summer. He will bring lots of animal friends for families to learn about and touch. Held in the multi-purpose room from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

North Merrick Library: From 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the library will host three little owls craft from ages three to kindergarten.
