Merrick is a special place, and that is why Teachers Federal Credit Union (of…TFCU for short) has decided to open our first Nassau County branch in your community! Since 1952, we’ve been working in communities across Suffolk County, all with the goal of providing personal and commercial banking with a members-first philosophy. Credit Unions are unique from big banks in that we are member-owned. With TFCU, we work to serve our members, not shareholders.
Interestingly enough, Merrick is named after the Meroke, the Algonquian tribe which originally called the area home. Meaning peaceful, Merrick was rather tranquil until the expansion of the railroad came to the small waterfront community. From Paul Krugman, the Nobel-prize winning economist, to the Lohans (yes, those Lohans), a variety of famous people have called, or currently call, the community home.
As for TFCU, we’re proud to have entered Nassau County via Merrick. From taking in a show at the Merrick Theatre tucked under the LIRR near the station to grabbing a slice at La Piazza right near our branch (located at 1638 Merrick Road!), we can tell we’re going to enjoy serving our members in Suffolk County’s western neighbor.
