Desirae's Darlings continues to bring joy to children in need (liherald.com) — Merrick residents can support Desirae's Darlings this October at a comedy night in Levittown and a Pizza Toy Swap on Sherman Avenue in Merrick, both collecting toys and donations for children in need. The volunteer-run charity, founded by Merrick's Joe Gallart, now distributes thousands of toys annually through hospitals and nonprofits across Long Island.
   

2. Congregation Beth Ohr launches new Jewish after-school program (liherald.com) — Families in Merrick looking for after-school care now have a new option in nearby Bellmore, where Congregation Beth Ohr is launching OHRchard, a Jewish after-school program with transportation from local schools. The program blends Hebrew and Jewish learning with camp-style activities like sports, cooking, and drama, aiming to give K–5 children a nurturing, enrichment-focused place to go after class.
   

3. Student becomes the master: 17-year-old teaches personal finance to peers (longislandpress.com) — Teens and parents in Merrick may recognize the Financial Freedom Initiative workshops that 17-year-old Jacob Fine has led at the Merrick Public Library, teaching basics like credit and college costs. What began as small, peer-led sessions has grown into a broader project with online resources and guest experts, all aimed at making financial literacy less intimidating for young people.
   

4. Freeport mom now uses her 200-pound weight loss journey to inspire others as fitness instructor (liherald.com) — A Freeport mother who lost more than 200 pounds credits daily walks at Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve in Merrick, along with gym workouts and spiritual growth, for helping transform her health. Now a fitness instructor and small-business owner, she's using her experience to guide others toward gradual, sustainable lifestyle changes while raising seven children.
