Police Arrest 15-Year-Old Driver In Deadly Parkway Crash

Three children were killed and seven more, including an infant, were injured on Friday after a stolen SUV overturned.

New York State Police have arrested the 15-year-old driver of a stolen SUV that overturned on the Meadowbrook State Parkway Friday morning and killed three teens.

Police say they have arrested Cindy Sanchez, of Uniondale, in connection with the crash. Police say she is charged with three counts of second-degree manslaughter and three counts of criminally negligent homicide.

According to police, Sanchez was driving the 2005 Chevy Trailblaizer southbound on the Meadowbrook Parkway Friday morning at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic. Around 11:45 a.m., Sanchez lost control of the car near exit M9 and it rolled over multiple times before coming to a rest in the marsh on the side of the road.

Police say there were 10 people in the car, including an 18-month-old baby. Herbert Leo Aviles Maravilla, 16, Marlon Carbajal, 15, and David Sanchez, 13, all of Uniondale, were all ejected from the car during the crash and killed.

Cindy Sanchez and the remaining passengers, Diego Aviles Maravilla, 15, Mayela Flores, 15, Kevin Robles, 16, Lisbeth Menjivar, 16, Walter Ochoa, 17, and Gael Sanchez, 18 months, suffered minor injuries, police say.

The crash shut down the southbound Meadowbrook Parkway for hours on Friday.

Sanchez is scheduled to be arraigned in Nassau County Family Court on Monday.

State police say the investigation into the crash is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the car driving on the parkway and/or the accident are asked to contact the New York State Police at (631) 756-3300. All calls will remain confidential.
