Police: Rocky Point Man in Possession of Baton, OxyContin on Meadowbrook

State Police arrest Christopher Kennedy Monday evening in Merrick.

A Rocky Point man was arrested in Merrick Monday evening after State Police discovered illegal painkillers and a baton weapon in his car, police said.

Christopher Kennedy, 21, was inside his blue Mazda on the shoulder of the Meadowbrook Parkway near the Babylon Turnpike exit when a state trooper patrolling the area stopped to survey the situation, police said. 

While interviewing Kennedy, the trooper observed a black collapsible baton between the center console and front passenger seat, police said.

Kennedy also had an unlabeled Walgreen prescription bottle containing 33 pills of OxyContin in his pocket, police said.

Kennedy was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon. Kennedy was to be arrainged Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
