Robber Attacked Man Who Caught Him In The Act: Nassau Police

Police say he was robbing a car when a neighbor saw him and took his picture.

ROOSEVELT, NY — A Roosevelt man was arrested for attacking and robbing a man in Roosevelt early Wednesday morning, Nassau County police said.

According to police, a 33-year-old man was walking on East Fulton Avenue at 6:23 a.m. Wednesday when he saw a man inside his neighbor's car, which was parked on the street. Police later identified the man in the car as Rahmarv McNeil, 18, of Washington Avenue.

As the man kept walking, police say McNeil approached him from behind and put him in a choke hold, and then punched him in the head multiple times. Police say that McNeil then fled.

A short time later, police say the man saw McNeil in his neighbor's car again, taking an item from inside the car. The man used his cell phone to take a picture of McNeil. When he realized his picture had been taken, police say that McNeil approached the man and punched him in the head multiple times. The man fell to the ground, and police say McNeil stole his wallet and then fled on foot.

After an investigation, police arrested McNeil without incident. At the time of his arrest, police say he was in possession of two pills and a substance believed to be marijuana.

McNeil is charged with second-degree robbery, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on April 7 and ordered held on $10,000 cash bail.
