Summer Safety and Fun for Your Furry Friend

Pamper your pup and find the perfect kennel for him/her when you go on trips.

Saying farewell to Fido the French bulldog or Fifi the feline as you embark on a two week long cruise is quite difficult.

Not only are you saying goodbye to your favorite fur-baby for 14 long days, but you also must battle with Fido and Fifi to get them in the car. While your animal might always put up a bit of a fight, perhaps adding some new regimes into your summer season will ease the intensity.

We’ve been hit with some pretty hot days already, and summer hasn’t even officially started yet. Take your shaggy sheepdog to Exotic Paws for a day of pampering and primping. She’ll come out looking a lot more kept, but also ready to deal with the dog days of summer.

Unfortunately, Exotic Paws was recently robbed, so the groomers are operating out of a temporary location for the time being. Contact Heidi at (516) 236-4655 or Chrissi at (516) 468-9663 to schedule an appointment.

After a day at the doggie spa, check out Bitch New York, which the website states, provides “the hottest trends in canine couture.” Deck out your doggie in an adorable little baseball jersey, while watching your favorite Major League teams with friends. Fido will sport the classiest victory collar in town when your son’s basketball teams walks off the courts with the summer season trophy.

You and your pup can match this summer, if you purchase her a pair of k9 optix pink heart sunglasses. In addition to looking styling, dogs – particularly those suffering from the eye disease known as pannus – will have the powerful rays of the sun blocked from their eyes. These sunglasses and Bitch New York’s other styles come with adjustable straps to fit different head sizes and an extra wide nose bridge, perfect for a canine’s face.

Not every car trip will end in smooth styles or fabulous new designs for your pet, though these delights might entice Fifi and Fido into the vehicle with a bit more ease.

Before heading out on vacation, contact both the Merrick Veterinary Group and Malibu Kennels to see if either are the right fit for your beloved pet. Some questions to ask include: Is staff present around the clock? Can I bring special food, treats, toys, etc. for my pet? How often are the pets fed? Do they get to go outside? Take a list with you, and record the answers, as well as any personal observations or feelings about the establishment.
