Unwind with Yoga Classes

One of these classes will ease your body and mind.

As the first signs of spring flutter through the air, we're reminded about the cyclical nature of life. At first, you felt pinned down by all of your commitments. Now, though, grandma is taking the kids out for the afternoon, and uncle Bill decided that he needs some quality time with your husband. Freedom. You’re all alone. However, despite the fact that you have the potential to take some time for yourself, all that you want to do is find a way to relax.

Getting glamorous for a night on the town sounds like a nightmare right about now, yet type A you still wants to feel some production in your relaxation. Why not visit the Merrick Library and sign up for one of the yoga classes offered there?

Starting any sort of class can be particularly intimidating for individuals who have never participated in the activity before. Enroll in one of the beginner’s classes to ease your way into the discipline. You’ll learn some of the basic moves of yoga with instruction from Jeanne McElwain, who is always there to answer your questions and help you to improve your moves.

Perhaps you are ready to dive into a class for more experienced individuals or you hope to move up a level once you have completed the initial training. Sign up for an intermediate or all level’s class to get your fill of yoga. Another option would be to take the beginner’s class and all level’s simultaneously, so you can really observe the next level in action.

Invite a friend to join you or go it alone. As you exercise your body and mind, being by yourself is quite peaceful, and having a partner with you offers a sense of support. In either case, you’ll get some relaxing time that just requires you to toss your hair in a bun and throw on a comfy shirt and some yoga pants.

Generally, at the end of sessions, you’ll slowly move your body into a completely motionless state for 10 to 15 minutes and just let go of whatever stress, problems, or issues you had throughout the day. Bring a sweatshirt, as you'll get a little chilly as you come to lie still.

Sessions cost $30 for eight weeks. Even if the current session is under way, see if there are still spots available or just wait a couple of weeks until the new session begins.
