Village of Hempstead Announces Fishing Trip Essay Contest

Local students write essays for the chance to go fishing with Mayor Hall

Village of Hempstead, New York –Village of Hempstead Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr. is inviting 40 students between the ages of 11 and 13 to go fishing with him in Port Jefferson, N.Y. Boys and girls in 6th, 7th and 8th grade are encouraged to enter a 150 word essay about their hobbies and why they would like to go fishing for a chance to win.

“This contest is a reward for all our Village of Hempstead students’ hard work,” explained Village of Hempstead Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr. “The Village is very pleased with how successful this program has been in the past helping students hone their writing skills over the summer and improve academically. Education is key to a successful future and we’re proud to support these students in their success.”

Essays should be submitted to Juanita Hargwood at 99 Nichols Ct. Hempstead NY 11550 no later than July 12th, 2016. The fishing trip is free for the 40 winners of the essay contest, but students should bring their own lunches. The group of selected students will from Kennedy Park with Mayor Hall, Deputy Mayor Luis Figueroa and Trustee Waylyn Hobbs Jr. at 5:30 a.m. on July 16th and return around 1:00 p.m.

“This annual program is a chance for Village of Hempstead students to engage with each other and local government in a fun, productive way,” added Village of Hempstead Deputy Mayor Luis Figueroa. “Every year participating students learn valuable skills about the importance of dedication, patience and achieving success in their goals.”
