Winthrop-University Hospital Holds Early Mother's Day Celebration as Hospital Honors Moms Who Have Either Delivered Triplets Or Overcome Potential Pregnancy Threatening Diagnosis

Winthrop-University Hospital Honors Moms With Triplets Or Have Overcome Potential Pregnancy Threatening Diagnosis

Dr. Martin R. Chavez, Chief of Maternal Fetal Medicine and the Fetal Surgery Program at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, plays with four year old Brien Malloy, a triplet, as the hospital hosted an early Mother’s Day celebration, honoring mothers who delivered triplets at the Hospital and mothers who overcame Vasa Previa, a condition in which blood vessels within the placenta or the umbilical cord are trapped between the fetus and the opening to the birth canal, a situation that carries a high risk in which the fetus may die.

Twenty-eight babies and young children were present during the celebration. The moms were recognized for the surprises, joys and challenges that caring for and raising multiple birth children pose, and for delivering healthy babies despite their high-risk pregnancies.
