1 Dead When Car Goes Off Road Into Water
The accident occurred in the Village of Kiryas Joel.
KIRYAS JOEL, NY — State police are investigating a deadly one-car crash in the Village of Kiryas Joel Sunday. Police said a vehicle overturned in the water around 7:20 p.m. on Karlsburg Road.
The investigation found that a 2018 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Jacob Farkas, 26, of Kiryas Joel, was traveling east on Karlsburg Road when the car veered across the roadway and down an embankment along the north side.
The car overturned and came to rest on its roof partially submerged underwater, police said.

Kiryas Joel Fire and EMS responded to the scene and extricated Farkas from the car.
Police said he was unresponsive and was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Monroe Fire Department scuba personnel conducted a search of the area for any other possible victims but did not find anyone.
Police said there was not indication there were any other occupants in the car.
