1 Killed In Sunday Morning House Fire In Hudson Valley

The rest of the family was able to evacuate safely, according to police.

CHESTER, NY — One person died in a house fire on Tulip Lane Sunday morning, according to police.

Police and fire department personnel responded to the scene around 8:15 a.m.

A first arriving police officer saw the fire was already burning through the roof, according to an announcement from Chester police. A female resident had successfully evacuated the home with her four young children, but one resident remained unaccounted for, police said.

Firefighters rushed in to find the missing person, who they quickly removed from the residence. According to police, the individual had already succumbed to the fire. Police had not yet released the victim’s identity as of Monday morning.

Investigators have determined the cause of the fire to be electrical in nature, and it started in the living room, police said. The house is uninhabitable due to the extent of the damage.
