1 Killed When Mack Truck Blows Out Tire, Goes Off I-84

This was the second fatality on I-84 in two days.

MONTGOMERY, NY — An Orange County man was killed when his Mack truck blew out a tire and went off the interstate. State police said the single-vehicle crash happened around 3 p.m. Wednesday on eastbound I-84 in the Town of Montgomery near exit 28, which was the old exit 5.

The initial investigation found that a 2020 Mack truck, driven by David Harp, 72, of Slate Hill, had a tire blowout. That caused the truck to leave the roadway on the right shoulder.

After that, police said, the truck went into a grassy shoulder and traveled about 1,000 feet into a wooded area, striking several trees before coming to a stop. The truck then became engulfed in flames.
