2 Arrested In Shooting At Poughkeepsie Inn

Police are still investigating the incident and ask for the public's help.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Arrests were made after a July 11 shooting in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Police received a report of a person being shot in a hotel room at the Poughkeepsie Inn, 2625 South Road around 1:30 p.m. The victim was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said two suspects were detained after a brief area search.

Akbar McClennon, 31, of Millerton, and Jarrin Mayes, 28, of Millerton were arrested and charged with five counts of first-degree robbery, felonies. [Get Patch’s Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts here.]

Police said the initial investigation revealed that the defendants were known to the victim and witnesses, and the shooting was not a random act of violence.

McClennon and Mayes were arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Court and sent to Dutchess County Jail on $250,000 bail or $500,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing, police said, and the public is asked to call if they have any knowledge of the shooting or may have witnessed the incident or fight.
