Fugitive Suspect In Hudson Valley Murder Case Captured In Florida: NYSP

A 28-year-old Orange County man was arrested in the killing of a 29-year-old woman inside her Ulster County apartment, state police say.

ELLENVILLE, NY — An Orange County man is back in New York after being arrested in Florida in connection to an Ulster County homicide investigation.

The New York State Police say that 28-year-old Michael David Carman, of Westbrookville, has been arrested in connection with the homicide investigation in the Village of Ellenville.

On March 30, Ellenville Police Department officers conducted a welfare check at a home on Clinton Avenue, where they found 29-year-old Nicole Izabella Perez dead inside her apartment.

The New York State Police then took over the case, which investigators determined to be a homicide. After further investigation, Carman was identified as a suspect, but it was learned that he had fled the state.

In coordination with the Ulster County District Attorney's Office and law enforcement agencies in Florida, Carman was found in Clay County, Florida.

An arrest warrant for second-degree murder was issued by an Ulster County Court judge, and Carman was taken into custody and lodged as a fugitive from justice in Florida pending extradition.

On Monday, Carman was extradited back to New York and is currently being held at the Ulster County Jail. He was scheduled to be arraigned before the Ulster County Court on Wednesday morning.

The New York State Police were assisted in the investigation by the Ellenville Police Department, the Clay County Sheriff's Office, the Jacksonville Beach Police Department, and the Ulster County District Attorney's Office.
