2-Car Crash In Dutchess Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Seriously Injured
Both individuals were the sole occupants of their vehicles.
PAWLING, NY — A two-car crash in Dutchess County Saturday left one person dead and another with serious injuries. The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said the crash occurred around 2:15 p.m. Saturday on Route 55 near Route 22 in the Town of Pawling.
The sheriff's office said its preliminary investigation found that a 2009 Subaru Forrester driven by Paul Pitt, 64, of Ulster Park, was going east on Route 55 when it crossed over the center line and struck a westbound 2011 Chevrolet Traverse being driven by Karri A. Lambertus, 49, of Pawling.
Pitt was taken by ambulance to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie where he was pronounced dead.

While the investigation is continuing by the Sheriff's Office Crash Investigation Unit, the primary factor for the crash appears to have been a medical issue on the part of Pitt just before the crash.
The sheriffs were assisted at the scene by the Pawling Fire Department.
More information may be released as it becomes available, the sheriff's office said.
