2 Teens Arrested For Stealing $14K From Employer: Police

Police they canceled sales and pocketed the cash.

LAGRANGE, NY — Two Poughkeepsie teens were arrested for allegedly stealing more than $14,000 from their employer.

State Police said Joseph A. Strang, 17, and Suheer Mazhar, 17, were both charged with third-degree grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records, felonies.

They were arrested Feb. 23 after Troopers were contacted by the manager of a LaGrange business who reported that an employee had stolen about $200 from the store’s cash register.

Using surveillance footage, police said they observed an employee entering sales in the register and later canceling the sales. That enabled the teens to share the proceeds.

A subsequent investigation found Mazhar and Strang had been canceling sales enabling them to steal money from the business since October 2016.

Both men were charged with felony fourth-degree grand larceny Feb. 23 and released on appearance tickets.

In accordance with the business reviewing its documentation from canceled sales and fictitious returns made while the defendants were working together, police said it was discovered that they had stolen more than $14,000.

After that revelation, the fourth-degree grand larceny charge was amended to third-degree grand larceny.

Both teenagers are due to appear in the Town of LaGrange Court at a later date and time.
