20-Acre Brush Fire Contained In Town Of Poughkeepsie

Mutual aid was called from nearby fire districts due to terrain and access issues requiring off-road utility vehicles.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Arlington firefighters battled a fire that tore through about 20 acres of brush and woods Saturday, April 21. Around 5:06 p.m. the fire district was sent to the area of 342 Van Wagner Rd. in the Town of Poughkeepsie for a report of smoke coming from the woods behind the residence.

Arlington Fire Chief Tory G. Gallante said mutual aid departments with off-road utility vehicles and personnel were called in from LaGrange, Pleasant Valley and Roosevelt fire districts due to access and terrain issues.

The woods are adjacent to the Cherry Hill Townhouses and Apartments.

Also assisting at the scene were the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response and the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

Gallante said one firefighter received a minor eye injury and was treated.

The fire was extinguished and units were back in service by 7:49 p.m.

Gallante said the fire is still under investigation.
