3 Hudson Valley Hospitals To Receive Research Awards From NYS

KINGSTON, NY — Three Hudson Valley hospitals will receive money from New York State to train physician researchers under the Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program. The two-year awards, which will support research projects in areas such as cancer, diabetes, epilepsy and pain management, were announced Thursday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
"New York is a leader in medical and scientific innovation, and by helping hospitals across the state attract and retain top-notch science researchers, we will empower our health centers to provide the very best care for New Yorkers," Cuomo said.

HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley Hospital in Kingston and Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla will receive Center awards, given to teaching hospitals to form research teams focused on an specific topic, disease or condition. They will get nearly $700,000 over two years for the training of a team comprised of at least three fellows.
Each institution has committed at least $200,00 in direct matching funds for its project.

Montefiore/New Rochelle Hospital is one of the individual award recipients. It will receive up to $150,000 over two years to help build its research capacity and train researchers in a variety of diverse areas.
