5-Year-Old Boy Not Breathing When Rescued From Pool Is Airlifted After CPR Brings Him Back

WAWAYANDA, NY — Tragedy was narrowly avoided when a small child was saved from drowning on Sunday in rural Orange County.

The town of Goshen Police Department responded to a report of a five-year old boy drowning in a pool. While rushing to the scene officers were told by Orange County 911 that the child was unconscious and not breathing and that CPR was in progress, according to the Goshen Police Benevolent Association.

When Goshen police and Orange County Sheriff's Office members arrived, Wawayanda EMS was on scene assessing the young boy who was now conscious and alert.

Police escorted the ambulance to the nearby New Hampton Fire Department where he was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center for further medical evaluation.

"The town would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Town of Goshen Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff's Department for responding to this call and escorting our EMS team to the landing zone yesterday," Town of Wawayanda officials said in a statement. "We also want to commend the employees of our EMS Department for the great job they did yesterday and everyday! The Board firmly believes that saving a life is invaluable, which is why we prioritized emergency medical services in our community."
