Alzheimer's Association to offer free virtual programs in August

Educational and social webinars offered for the general public, people with dementia and their family caregivers

The Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter will host the following free virtual events via Zoom in August. To register for any of these programs, call the Alzheimer’s Association at 800.272.3900.

Something for Alz: Summer Vacation: 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 4, 11, and 25. A virtual concert series for people with dementia and their loved ones held on Wednesdays in August featuring a different performer each week.

Something for Alz: Mindful Movement: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays, Aug. 5, 12, and 19. A free virtual movement program for people with dementia and their loved ones. Participants are guided in gentle movements according to their ability as a means of self expression. No prior experience is necessary. Led by Taryn Smith, who is a creative movement facilitator, dancer and expressive arts therapist.

Something for Alz: Musical Moments: 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Aug. 7, 14, 21, and 28. An interactive musical program for people with dementia and their loved ones with music therapist Timothy Doak.

AlzWell Social Club: 1-3:30 p.m. Saturdays, Aug. 14 and 28. Creative interactive fun for people with dementia and their loved ones.

Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16. Join us for a free virtual educational program by the Alzheimer’s Association in partnership with the Town of Greenburgh with information on diet, nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement. 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s: 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17. Learn about 10 common warning signs and what to watch for in yourself and others. This free virtual program by the Alzheimer’s Association in partnership with the Bronxville Public Library explores typical age-related changes, common warning signs of Alzheimer’s, how to approach someone about memory concerns, early detection, the benefits of a diagnosis and the diagnostic process and Alzheimer’s Association resources.

Alz Across New York: Visit the Brooklyn Botanical Garden: 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18. Join us for a free virtual social program for people with dementia and their family caregivers. Alz Across New York is a series of online events exploring cultural attractions across New York State. This particular program involves a virtual tour of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.

Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23. Join us for a free virtual program by the Alzheimer’s Association in partnership with the Town of Greenburgh. Learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s, disease stages and risk factors, current research and treatments as well as Alzheimer’s Association resources.
