Alzheimer's Association to offer programs in Westchester
Free educational events planned at various locations

The Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter will offer several programs for people with dementia and their caregivers in the weeks ahead.
“Living with Alzheimer’s for Early-Stage Caregivers” will be held on 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 4, 11 and 18 and Andrus on Hudson at 185 Old Broadway, Hastings-on-Hudson. This free three-part educational program offers practical answers to the questions that arise in the early stage. For more information or to RSVP, call 800.272.3900.
“Effective Communication Strategies” will be held at two Westchester locations in October. From 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 5, it will be held at the Bronxville Library, 201 Pondfield Road, Bronxville. From 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 19, it will be held at Mamaroneck Public Library, 136 Prospect Ave., Mamaroneck. This free educational program looks at how communication takes place when someone has dementia. Learn to decode verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia and identify strategies to help connect and communicate at every stage of the disease. “Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body” will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Mamaroneck United Methodist Church, 546 E. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck. This free educational event will look at the latest research in diet, nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement to help form a plan for healthy aging. “Dementia Conversations” will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at Somers Library, 2 Primrose St., Katonah. This event focuses on helpful tips to assist families with difficult conservations related to dementia, including going to the doctor, deciding when to stop driving and making legal and financial plans.
