Alzheimer's Association offers social, educational webinars
Programs designed for people with dementia and caregivers as well as the general public

The Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter will host the following virtual events via Zoom from Dec.14-19. To register for any of these programs, call the Alzheimer’s Association at 800.272.3900 or click the link in the program name to register online.
Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behavior will be held from 10-11 a.m., Monday Dec. 14. Behavior is one of the primary ways people with dementia communicate their needs and feelings once the ability to lose language is lost. Learn to decode common behaviors so you can connect at every stage of the disease.
Something for Alz: Musical Mornings will be held from 11 a.m to noon Monday, Dec. 14. A free virtual music program for people with dementia and their family caregivers with music therapist Sharon Pelcher-Rao, MA, LCAT.

Caring through the Holidays will be held from 11:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m Monday, Dec. 14. This free webinar for caregivers aims to help make the holidays easier and more enjoyable by helping caregivers: Work through the many emotions that may arise during the holidays, manage expectations — your own and those of family members, honor treasured traditions while adapting to a new normal and minimize stress.
10 Signs of Alzheimer’s Disease will be held from 3-4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14. Join us to learn about 10 common warning signs and what to watch for in yourself and others. This hour long program covers: Typical age-related changes, common warning signs of Alzheimer’s. how to approach someone about memory concerns, early detection, the benefits of a diagnosis and the diagnostic process.

Something for Alz: Creative Expression will be held from 11 a.m to noon, Tuesday, Dec. 15. A free virtual creative arts program for people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia and their family caregivers with Creative Arts Therapist Jayne Henderson.
Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia will be held from noon to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15. A free virtual program in partnership with the Ulster County Office for the Aging. Learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s, disease stages and risk factors, current research and treatments as well as Alzheimer’s Association resources.
Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia will be held from 7-8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15. Join us for this event in partnership with Pawling Public Library to learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s, disease stages and risk factors, current research and treatments as well as Alzheimer’s Association resources.
Caregiving during COVID-19 will be held from 1-2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16. Join us for a free virtual webinar to learn about measures you can take to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 for you and your loved one with dementia. Review guidelines for managing daily care safely at home and handling medical issues and doctor visits. Get tips for managing stress and coping with anxiety during this difficult time.
Understanding Alzheimer’s & Dementia will be held from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16. Learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s, disease stages and risk factors, current research and treatments as well as Alzheimer’s Association resources.
Living with Alzheimer’s: For Early-Stage Caregivers will be held from 3-4 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16. This is part two of a three-part program that offers practical answers to the questions that arise in the early stage.
A Memory Cafe will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17. A social program for people with early-stage dementia and their family caregivers featuring holiday music with Melinda Burgard, a music therapist who has worked with people for dementia for more than 30 years. Prescreening is required for this early-stage group.
Something for Alz: Musical Moments will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 18. Join us for a free virtual music program for people with dementia and their family caregivers featuring certified music therapist Jeffrey Friedberg.
AlzWell Social Club will be held from 1-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19. A free social program for people with dementia and their family caregivers. Features movement to music, a support group with art therapists, dance and other activities.
