Alzheimer's Association programs coming up in December

Dutchess County events include a holiday support group for caregivers

The Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter will host the following programs in Dutchess County during December.

“Help for the Holidays: Caregiver Support Sessions” will be held from 3-4 p.m. Mondays, Dec. 9 through Dec. 16, at the Alzheimer’s Association office, 2649 South Road, Suite 101, Poughkeepsie. This group aims to make the holidays easier and more enjoyable by helping caregivers work through the emotions they may face during the holidays, manage expectations, honor treasured traditions while adapting to a new normal and minimize stress. Preregistration is requested but not required. For more information, call the Alzheimer’s Association at 800.272.3900.

“Living with Alzheimer’s: For Middle-Stage Caregivers” will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Mondays, Dec. 9 and 16, at LaGrange Library, 488 Freedom Plains Road, Poughkeepsie. In the middle stage of Alzheimer’s disease, those who were care partners now become hands on caregivers. This two-part series will include helpful strategies for providing safe, effective and comfortable care in the middle stage of Alzheimer’s. To RSVP, contact the library at 845.452.3141. Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia” will be held from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Beulah Baptist Church, 92 Catharine St., Poughkeepsie. Learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, stages and risk factors, research, treatments and Alzheimer’s Association resources.
