Amenia Man Charged With Sex Abuse Of A Minor: Police

Police said he allegedly gave her alcohol and then had sex with her.

AMENIA, NY — State Police arrested an Amenia man and charged him with sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl. Jake Wheeler, 25, of Amenia, was charged with first-degree sexual abuse, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Police said Wheeler allegedly gave the 16-year-old alcoholic beverages and then had sex with her while she was sleeping at his apartment located in the Town of Amenia.

Wheeler was arraigned in the Town of Amenia Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail or $40,000 bond.

He is scheduled to return to court June 2.

An order of protection was issued ordering Wheeler to refrain from all contact with the victim.
