Angelika Graswald Released From Prison Thursday

She is out on parole after being released for time served.

BEDFORD, NY — Angelika Graswald, who was convicted in the 2015 death of her fiancé, was released from Bedford Hills Correctional Facility Thursday and is now out on parole. She was sentenced in Orange County Court Nov. 8 having pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in the death of Vincent Viafore.

Graswald was picked up at the prison by her attorney, Richard Portale, who did not take any reporters’ questions, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.

Graswald was incarcerated at Bedford Hills after her sentencing, but before that, she had been held in the Orange County Jail. Time served counted toward her sentence of 1-1/3 to four years.

Graswald came to a plea agreement in July, admitting in court that she caused the drowning death of Viafore.

She could be deported after she finishes parole because she is a Latvian citizen with U.S. permanent residence.

Viafore’s family filed a lawsuit in October against Graswald alleging that she was responsible and liable for her fiancé’s death.
