Beacon Man Arrested On Drug Charges, DWAI: Police
State Police initially stopped his vehicle for speeding.

BEACON, NY — State Police arrested a 56-year-old Beacon resident on drug charges Dec. 27. Darren Atkins was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
A Trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding around noon Dec. 27 on I-84 in the Town of Fishkill. A State Police narcotics detection canine alerted the Trooper to the possibility of drugs, and a search found crack-cocaine and marijuana, police said.
Atkins also showed signed of impairment.

He was arraigned in the Town of Fishkill Court and was sent to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
Atkins is scheduled to appear in court again Jan. 2.
