Benefit Fund To Assist Family Of Lt. Brian J. Sullivan

Sullivan died Saturday of a heart attack after spending 24 hours on duty with the FDNY.

MONROE, NY — The New York Police and Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund will be providing financial assistance to the family of Lt. Brian J. Sullivan who suffered a fatal heart attack and died Saturday after spending 24 hours on duty.

The fund, which is also known as Answer the Call, will provide Sullivan's widow with $25,000 to assist her with immediate expenses.

Answer the Call will then continue to provide his family with ongoing support and hopes to raise enough funds to provide his widow with annual financial assistance each year for the rest of her life.

"We send out deepest condolences to Lieutenant Sullivan's family and the entire FDNY community," said Lauren Profeta, executive director of Answer the Call.

"Answer the Call vows to honor Lieutenant Sullivan by helping those he loved the most — his family. His bravery, heroism and service to our city will never be forgotten," she said in a press release.

Sullivan was a 27-year veteran of the Fire Department of New York. He had spent 24 hours on duty, during which he responded to seven emergencies including a fire in the Bronx.

He had complained to his fellow firefighters during the tour of pain and discomfort but continued to respond to calls.

At the end of his shift, he went home and later was rushed to the hospital in cardiac arrest.
