Bookkeeper Takes Plea Deal In $125K Embezzlement Case
She will be ordered to make restitution to her former employer in Wallkill, and spend time behind bars as part of the agreement.

WALLKILL, NY — A bookkeeper who helped herself to company funds, has admitted to her crimes and will pay the price.
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that 46-year-old Meghan Henesy, of Panama City, Florida, pleaded guilty on Monday to second-degree grand larceny.
Under the plea agreement, prosecutors recommend she be sentenced to two to six years in prison and ordered to pay $127,000 in restitution when she is sentenced on June 4.

"This defendant was placed in a position of trust and abused that trust to enrich herself," Hoovler said. "The staggering amount of money that this defendant stole demands significant punishment. That the defendant took efforts to cover up her crimes further compounds her culpability. But for the exhaustive and painstaking investigation by the New York State Police in conjunction with my Office, this defendant might very well have avoided apprehension. Thankfully, instead, her crimes were uncovered and she was held accountable."
Henesy worked as a bookkeeper and officer manager for a title insurance company in Wallkill from 2020 through 2022. She engaged in a series of frauds that converted over $127,000 from the title insurance company for her own personal use. These frauds included issuing checks to herself which she cashed or deposited.

Henesy also forged a contract which falsely claimed that she owned the company in order to purchase a luxury vehicle in the company's name. She also falsified the business records of the company to make it appear as if the expenditures were for legitimate business purposes.
The district attorney also thanked the New York State Police for their investigation which led to the arrest of Henesy.
The case is being prosecuted by Executive Assistant District Attorney Ryan Greenbaum and Assistant District Attorneys Anthony Molina and Michael Roche.
