Bronx Man Caught With 1 Pound Of Cocaine: Police

Police said they found probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants.

WOODBURY, NY — A Bronx resident faces felony drug charges after being stopped for a traffic violation on I-87. State Police said Alexander Zapata, 26, of Bronx, was pulled over around 10:03 p.m. March 14.

After interviewing Zapata, who was driving the car, police said there was probably cause to search the vehicle and its occupants.

Zapata was found to have more than a pound of cocaine, police said.

He was taken into custody and charged with the following:

  • First-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance — narcotic drug with intent to sell, a felony
  • Unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation
  • Vehicle and traffic violation

Zapata was arraigned in the Town of Woodbury Court and sent to the Orange County Jail without bail.
