The Hudson Valley is known for its rich diversity of temperate plant species. Many of these plants are edible and have fed the region’s human inhabitants for millennia. At this event, Wild Hudson Valley co-founders Anna Plattner and Justin Wexler will describe the many ways in which they bridge the past with the present by introducing the region’s residents and visitors to these wild foods, which are so much more than just an edible or ecological part of the landscape. From classes on Northeastern Native land stewardship, to guided foraging walks and even a wild food CSA, the couple will discuss the many ways in which they open the region’s eyes (and tastebuds!) to Hudson Valley nature and history. Anna Plattner and Justin Wexler run Wild Hudson Valley, a forest farm and educational organization based in the Catskill Mountains and Hudson Valley. They grow wild-simulated ginseng, shiitake mushrooms, and steward a wide variety of wild plants and mushrooms. Anna and Justin regularly host workshops and consultations focused on Hudson Valley history, wild foods, forest farming, and land stewardship practices. Anna Plattner received her BS from Cornell University, where she majored in Natural Resources. Over the last two decades, she has overseen multiple large-scale agroforestry operations. Justin Wexler holds a BA in History and Anthropology from Marlboro College and a Master of Arts in Teaching and Professional Certificate in Environmental Policy from Bard College. An ethnoecologist, Justin has spent his career either outdoors or deep in archival and ethnographic research to better understand the history, culture, and land management practices of the Native Peoples of the Hudson and Delaware Valleys

Connecting to History Through Wild Foods with Wild Hudson Valley

&nbsp;Dutch history can be elusive – it’s rarely taught in our schools and with so many disparate parts it often follows a meandering, convoluted path and connections are obscured. Historian/filmmaker Stephen Blauweiss brings this history to life in a fun and engaging way, using a vast array of quality images, maps, and timelines. What was once opaque becomes clear and understandable as the stories unfold and connect on multiple levels. Part 2 of 3 part series with historian Stephen Blauweiss. Stephen has over 30 years experience as an independent filmmaker and&nbsp;produces work on a wide variety of subjects, from art and education to social and environmental issues. He has produced over 75 short films, including three features. Twenty of his short films about artists have aired on American Public Television and have been screened in museums and festivals across the U.S., Europe and Canada, including the New York State Museum, Mass Moca, the Albany Institute of History &amp; Art, and the Dorsky Museum of Art. The Dutch & Their New York Legacy Lecture with Stephen Blauweiss 

This six-session class (18 hours total) is designed for youth ages 13 - 17 who are either new to dinghy sailing or who would like additional opportunities to get out on the water, make new friends from different communities, and learn more about sailing.&nbsp; Spring Session: Orientation: Thursday, May 14 5:00 to 6:30 pm. Classes will be Thursdays, 3:30 - 6:30 pm, May 21 &amp; 28; June 4, 11, 18 &amp; 25.
US Sailing-certified instructors will teach or review the basics of sailing in brief on-land chalk talks, creative land drills and on the water in our fleet of dinghy sailboats. &nbsp;Participants will practice various crew and skipper skills while working as teams with other students. Instructors will coach from nearby safety boats.

Step into the tense world of Revolutionary New York with this live performance by Drama From The Past. This performance explores a pivotal local story connected to Fishkill’s role in the struggle for independence.
The Story • Set in October 1780 • In the month before, the treason of Benedict Arnold had been exposed, and Arnold is on the run. His accomplice, British Major John André, had been captured, tried, and hanged. Joshua Hett Smith, a civilian who is suspected of facilitating Arnold's rendezvous with André, was caught in Fishkill and is now on trial for his life. Was Smith aware of his role in Arnold's treachery, or was he an unwitting dupe? Will the Board of Inquiry, led by John Laurence, punish Smith and make an example of those who betray the cause for Independence, or will they give him the benefit of the doubt for following orders and show him mercy?
This performance features Drama From The Past's Sean Grady and Gary Petagine. This immersive historical play brings a high-stakes moment of the American Revolution to life. Tickets are available for $20 for Fishkill Historical Society members and $25 for non-members. Historical Performance "In The Shadow Of The Gallows: The Trial Of Joshua Hett Smith"

Join filmmakers Gary Bohan Jr. and Stephen Blauweiss for an entertaining multimedia presentation that will include several completed segments from their feature documentary Sharkey &amp; His Pals. Sharkey was a sea lion with a sense of humor so uncanny and spontaneous, many considered him practically human. Trained in Kingston at a unique facility called Seal College, Sharkey starred on Broadway and worked with many entertainers and celebrities. His success resulted from the bond between him and his loving trainer, whose secret was showering Sharkey with kindness. This presentation will offer many surprises and laughs along with lots of show business history.

Mount Saint Mary College will host its 46th Annual Invitational Golf and Tennis Tournament on Monday, June 1 at the historic Powelton Club in Newburgh, N.Y.
The event will honor two prominent regional leaders for their commitment to the Hudson Valley community: Anthony Campagiorni, Esq., Executive Vice President of Public Affairs at Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corp., and Jeffrey Crist, Owner and Operator of Crist Bros Orchards, Inc.

 <li>Afternoon Golf: Check-in begins at 12:30 p.m. with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.</li>
 <li>Tennis Invitational: Players will check in at 11:30 a.m. for lunch, followed by tournament play on the club’s clay courts at 2 p.m. Tennis whites are required for all participants.</li>
</ul>
In addition to the athletic competitions, the event features a buffet lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and concludes with a celebratory evening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Emily Nomer finds aesthetic company in the Pattern &amp; Decoration artists of the 1970’s, amongst others. Most of the works are painted in acrylic, and geometry, repetition, and pattern are the basis of most compositions. Balance and proportion remain her guiding principles.
Malcolm Gladwell’s thesis from Outliers hypothesizes that it takes around 10,000 hours to achieve competence. In the case of Hudson Valley artist Emily Nomer, “it has taken me a long time to become competent at my artistic voice.” Emily describes her upcoming exhibition at Vassar’s Palmer Gallery as “an inward-looking pursuit…An Introspective”.
