Construction Worker Injured On Job In Kiryas Joel

The man who was injured is in serious condition.

KIRYAS JOEL, NY — A fall while on the job in Kiryas Joel left one man in serious condition. State police said, around 11 a.m. Monday, troopers were sent to 18 Israel Zupnick Drive in Kiryas Joel for a report of an accident at a construction site.

Ricardo Martinez, 30, of Monroe, was found unconscious with an apparent head injury.

A trooper began CPR, after which Martinez was taken by ambulance to Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown.

He is currently listed in serious condition.

An investigation discovered that Martinez, who is employed by Garfield Plumbing & Heating in Kiryas Joel, was trying to maneuver a 3-inch by 20-inch PVC water pipe into a small opening on the outside of the building from an open fourth-floor window in the rear of the building when he lost his balance and fell.

He was not using any type of safety equipment prior to the fall, police said.
