Coronavirus: Orange County Warns Of Possible Exposure

The county also announced its fourth death from the new coronavirus.

GOSHEN, NY — The Orange County Department of Health is warning the community of a potential exposure to the new coronavirus in Middletown. Health officials said the exposure could have occurred Wednesday, March 18 and Friday, March 20.

Health Commissioner Dr. Irina Gelman said a person exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms went to the ShopRite in the Campbell Plaza on Dolson Avenue March 18.

That person returned to ShopRite two days later and also visited Family Dollar, Walgreens and Yes Beauty Supply on Dolson Avenue that same day.

Earlier this week, the health department informed the public that someone who tested positive for the new coronavirus was at the Wal-Mart Supercenter, at 288 Larkin Drive in Monroe, at around 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, while symptomatic.

Gelman said residents should consider any public site in the county as a potential site for COVID-19 exposure.

She said, if you become mildly ill, stay home and manage your symptoms. For those who have severe symptoms indicative of the new coronavirus, contact your medical provider to discuss a plan of care.

The health department is advising people with mild illness to stay home and not get tested. Do not call 911 unless you have an immediate medical emergency.

Orange County reported its fourth death from the new coronavirus Friday.

An elderly woman, who was older than 80 and had pre-existing health issues, died, the Times Herald-Record said.

Orange County has 910 residents who have been confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus, according to numbers released Friday morning. That is an increase of 159 from Thursday.
