POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A LaGrangeville man committed suicide in the Dutchess County Jail where he was being held after being accused of robbing a Town of Poughkeepsie bank. A corrections officer found Nicholas J. Salfelder, 33, who tried to hang himself with a bed sheet late Thursday.
He was taken to a local hospital and died around 6 p.m. Friday, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.
The jail's medical personnel were assigned to watch Salfelder because of alcohol and drug dependency.
