Court Clears Way For Maloney To Run For AG, Congress
If he wins the primary to become the Democratic nominee for attorney general, he can decline the nomination for re-election to Congress.

NEWBURGH, NY — Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, D-Cold Spring, has survived a legal challenge to his simultaneous re-election and state attorney general campaigns. On Wednesday, the state Court of Appeals decide not to hear an appeal of a lower court ruling that was in favor of Maloney.
Maloney is one of four Democratic candidates for attorney general, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.
If he secures the AG nomination, he can decline the nomination for the congressional seat.

Should Maloney continue with the race for the 18th Congressional District in the fall he will face Republican James O’Donnell, who is an Orange County legislator.
The 18th Congressional District is comprised of all of Orange and Putnam counties, as well as parts of northern Westchester County and southern Dutchess County. The district includes the cities of Poughkeepsie, Newburgh and Beacon.
