Downstate Inmate Arrested For Having Improvised Weapon

The investigation dates back to June 2017.

FISHKILL, NY — An inmate at Downstate Correctional Facility was arrested in April for having a weapon. State police said John M. Hayes, 32, of Brooklyn, was charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband, a felony.

Police said their investigation found that on June 5, 2017, Hayes had an improvised weapon while he was incarcerated at the Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill. He was arrested April 18.

Hayes was arraigned in the Town of Fishkill Court and remains in the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
