Driver Who Was In Anaphylactic Shock Before Dying In One-Car Crash ID'd By Authorities

He was traveling west on Route 17K, but veered into the eastbound lane, before smashing into a utility pole.

WALLKILL, NY — Town of Wallkill police have identified the victim of a Sunday morning, single-vehicle crash.

Police say that on Sunday, at 9:39 a.m., officers responded to Route 17K, near the exit 116 Route 17 off-ramp, after receiving a report of the crash.

At the scene, officers found the victim, Richard Gilbert, of Middletown, unconscious in his vehicle.

Police say Gilbert, while suffering from anaphylactic shock, was traveling in the westbound lane of Route 17K, but had veered into the eastbound lane, before hitting a utility pole.

He was taken by Town of Wallkill EMS to the Garnet Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
