Dutchess/Ulster Walk to End Alzheimer's set for Oct. 17

Participants will walk in their own communities rather than in large groups

This year’s Dutchess/Ulster Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held on Saturday, Oct 17, but it will look different than in the past. Instead of a large gathering at the Walkway Over the Hudson, the walk will be held in neighborhoods throughout Dutchess and Ulster counties as participants walk at the location of their choice in small groups.

At 10 a.m. on Oct. 17, there will be a virtual opening ceremony, after which participants will begin walking. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s app will track steps and offer encouragement along the way. There will also be a Drive-By View-Only Promise Garden outside the Poughkeepsie Office at 2649 South Road (Route 9) just south of Locust Grove. People are invited to drive by between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Visit WalkwayWalk.org to register or make a donation.

Those who are unable to Walk on Oct. 17 can still register to participate after the actual walk date and fundraising will continue through Dec. 31. The virtual opening ceremony can be viewed by registrants any time after the walk day through the end of the year. There will also be a follow-up celebration for participants on Nov. 6.
